ABOUT
Kayla Burt (KB) is the Program Administrator for the realtalk@MIT program in the Center for Constructive Communication at the MIT Media Lab, where she works to foster a culture of listening and shared understanding across the MIT community. realtalk@MIT combines human conversation with digital technology to create meaningful dialogue. KB is also a Research Assistant with Reflective Educational Research, collaborating with Dr. Damian Bebell on global surveys for the Apple Distinguished Schools program, focused on teacher practices and beliefs related to technology, as well as on the development of a new Action Research course for K12 educators worldwide.
As a PhD student in the Information Science program at the University at Buffalo (UB), KB's research interests include information behavior and human-computer interaction in the graduate admissions process, though she also finds other areas of education, technology, and everyday life use very intriguing.
Previously, KB was a Data Research Analyst at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where she collected, analyzed, and reported on data related to faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Her favorite accomplishments included hosting a staff appreciation event with a dear friend to amplify the work of outstanding community members and creating the staff data and analytics community, which brought staff together to share best practices, find resources, and learn from each other.
KB graduated from Le Moyne College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. During her time there, she was a member of the women's golf team, serving as captain in her junior and senior years, and she remains in the top 10 scores for women's golf at the college. She was actively involved in various clubs and organizations across campus, including Student Government, and was selected as the Student Commencement speaker for her class. In 2020, she earned a Master's degree in Public Administration and Policy from American University and completed additional coursework in Data Analytics and Research Methods at Boston College in 2021, focusing on Statistics, Econometrics, Higher Education Policy, and Predictive Analytics/Forecasting.
